What They are

Vital parts of the front suspension in your Honda vehicle. They're also called "A arms."

Some models have four of them, two lower and two upper, and they connect the frame or body to the wheel assembly or steering knuckle. Their outer ends attach via a ball joint, sometimes permanently, but also pressed or bolted in sometimes. This is what lets you replace the joint separately if you need to. Rubber bushings, on the other hand, enable them to swing vertically when the vehicle's front wheels and tires go over road hazards -- for instance, bumps and potholes.

Put simply, they make sure your front wheels contact the road the way they're supposed to, thereby making sure you can steer properly.

The Signs They're Going Bad

• General damage
• Loss of control
• Pops or clunks during driving
• Brake drift (especially across rough terrain)

These signs suggest degraded ball joints or torn control arm bushings specifically, and both can lead to complete front wheel and suspension separation.
